As we couldn’t meet in person as we usually do at Christmas, over mince pies and wine, we found a way to make an online get-together a little bit special.
Our much loved founding Treasurer, Dr Daichi Ishikawa, joined us online from his home in Japan to share his latest acquisitions and his unstoppable enthusiasm for collecting books and ephemera.
As well as sharing his own latest items and telling us about his book-hunting in and from his homeland, we also shared some of our own collections. This year, none of us needed to brave taking materials into town – we were able to show off our favourite things from the comfort of our own homes!
We saw some incredible books…. Kayleigh started off by sharing a couple of items from her collection before exhibiting her newly-designed book plate for the very first time. We were then treated to some early printed works by Greek and Roman philosophers from the collection of John Sellers. Gillian Neale presented some highlights from her collection of works from Annie S. Swan, followed by Jacqui Grainger on books from women’s presses, before Andy Horton gave us an insight into role-playing rulebooks and the issue of diversity. Finally, our Secretary Anne Welsh and Daichi himself, shared a few of their acquisitions.
We do hope you had a lovely Christmas and New Year! Despite things being anything but normal and we look forward to celebrating together in person again next year.
